Working with a Casting Director

Fri 28 Feb 2020 - 3:00 pm

Learn how working with a casting director can elevate your film project to the next level

In this masterclass, we will demystify the world of the casting director. It is specifically designed for producers and directors, and demonstrates the importance of the professional casting process in terms of realising your story, through finding the right cast.

Claire will talk about the full process from initial engagement of the casting director by producer & director - through to going out to named talent - communicating with agents, to what is needed from you the team to sell your project to the agents and the talent.

We will also cover castings and auditions, self tapes, finding unknown talent and establishing where the handover point is in terms of the cast becoming production's responsibility.
Claire will use experience of previous projects to draw on examples - including many BFI funded and privately funded projects - and how this can help the casting process.

These masterclasses have run (with some gaps) in Sheffield since 2014 and are some of the strongest examples of film education delivered by working professionals that this city has to offer. They are chaired and coordinated by Rob Speranza, the Director of the SYFN and a professional self-shooting producer and director working out of the city of Sheffield.
