Does Poetry Romanticise Mental Health?

Thu 07 May 2020 - 6:30 pm

A discussion and performance addressing the tension between creative expression and glamorisation.

In collaboration with the Festival of Debate & Kurious Arts, the University of Sheffield Poetry Society brings you night of spoken word with an informal discussion on the complexity of navigating mental health issues through poetry.

Featuring performances from local poets, the we invite you to listen and share your thoughts on mental health themes in contemporary poetry. Is it a creative source of therapy or a toxic medium of glamorisation towards vulnerable individuals?

About the University of Sheffield Poetry Society
The Society celebrates all kinds of poetic expression, from the written form to spoken word. Every month, we open up the stage to Sheffield's finest poets at our popular open mic events. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram (Sheffield Uni Poetry Society and @uospoetry) and share the literary love.
