Masterclass: Publishing Picture Books and Young Fiction: Everything you need to know - with award-winning writer Caryl Hart

Sat 15 Feb 2020 - 1:30 pm

So, you think you’ve got great ideas for children’s books but how do you get them into print, onto bookshelves and into the hands of the youngsters who want to read them?

In this masterclass you will hear all about the industry from an insider's point of view. Caryl will then give you a writing challenge and there will be the chance for some one-to-one feedback during a speed-meeting session.

Session One - 60 mins
Making a living from writing children's books
The Publication Process - how it all works
What publishers are looking for

Break: refreshments and a chance to chat

Session Two - 45 mins
Getting noticed
Top Tips for submissions
What to expect when you get a deal

Session 3 - 60 mins
Speed Meetings
Optional: book a 5 minute timed slot to get one-to-one advice, discuss your manuscript or ask any burning questions.  We have a maximum of 12 one-to-one sessions available on a first-come-first-served basis (booked on the day).

NB: Writing for pleasure and writing to get published are not always the same thing, so if you do bring a manuscript, please let Caryl know what your goals are.  Feedback will always be constructive but if you are looking to get a publishing deal then be prepared for honest feedback which will most likely guide you towards further editing or re-writing!
